CANEAST 6,7,8,9,10 HOME!

October 5
We spent a lovely day touring Knowlton/Lac-Brome Quebec, home of Louise Penny, one of Elizabeth’s favourite authors. (I need to start reading the series.)  We saw many locations that were the inspiration for locations in her books.

It’s Fall – the outside temperature went to -3C last night and the outside (campground) tap froze.  All OK inside, our water and pump worked fine, and they thawed by early morning when the sun came out.  Another reason to be heading home...winter's coming.

There is a Celtic music festival going on here but tickets were sold out.  Also, in two weeks there is a writer’s festival in Knowlton and Louise will be participating … maybe another time.  The Celtic music festival is every two years, not sure about the writer’s festival.

An army cadet group is camping here, biking and hiking.  Also, we saw some fireworks outside the camp and heard an outdoor concert (pop 40) last night.  In the morning we learned it was all for a wedding.

Almost home!
October 6
We moved to Les Cedres just outside Montreal and will visit friends here and then move on to Kingston, Ontario.  We should be home on Thursday the 10th of October, just in time for Thanksgiving.

We had a great visit with Cait and Jean Louis at their place on the St. Lawrence River.  There is a “shed” beside their house, which was actually the residence of the gardener/maintenance person who was hired by the original owners to look after their summer home.  Jean Louis and Cait use the place now as a workshop but it’s also their very own personal pizza parlour.  JL has built a wood fired pizza/bread oven there and we enjoyed our evening watching him make the pizza and catching up in a warm and cozy place.

It’s quiet and peaceful here at the Rideau Acres Campground (our first camp on the way out back in August, now our last camp on the return) as we take our last days to unwind and regroup.

We are both ready for home.  Part of me (Jerry) wants to keep travelling but part of me needs to get home and regroup, see old friends, attend appointments and generally get back into the old routine so we can think of our next adventure.  We have several ideas of what that might be and are waiting for some costs, information and thoughts to settle in.

We both have medical appointments and also have to cleanup and winterize Miss Adventure Too.  She also has an appointment at the dealer for some warranty work.  It seems no matter where we set the thermos coupler in the fridge, it’s always too cold (which is an unusual problem for these types of fridges) and sometimes food is freezing in the main compartment.  (I suspect the fridge is continually “on” and not regulating properly.  Also, the trailer brakes were intermittently acting up; but of course, that’s not happening now so it will be difficult to diagnose.  There were some other little items that I fixed myself along the way. There are always little things like anything else that need maintenance. Hopefully everything will be solved before we pull her out again.

All in all, the trailer and truck have pulled and handled well.  I have to remind myself to be cautious turning corners, maneuvering and backing into sites with low trees and other hazards.

We certainly have been comfortable in Miss Adventure Too in all sorts of weather including Hurricane Dorian!  It has been another great adventure in our remarkable and beautiful country.

Hope you have enjoyed our journey and we are happy to have shared it with you.  Until next time,

Bye for now,
Jerry, Elizabeth, Misty, Miss Adventure Too and Clifford the Big Red Truck.

Love the journey
