CANEAST AUG 26-30

AUG 26 We went to the tourist info center in Cavendish to blog and upload our latest including a short You tube.  Elizabeth downloaded some library books and then we went to Avonlea Village for Cows ice cream and to see if they had a particular T‑shirt but it seems they only print their newer T’s.  We came back for an Instant Pot dinner (scrumptious) and headed to Charlottetown where we had the best tea and hot chocolate in a restaurant (Casa Mia CafĂ©) before seeing Anne and Gilbert the Musical. The show was fantastic, in a smaller theater. Three of the cast (understudies) were substituted. Including Anne – the understudy performed flawlessly.  Great show that had been cancelled from our original Friday booking. AUG 27 We had thought to book Mathew’s Carriage Ride but decided not to as the weather turned rainy, windy and cooler.  We’ll do that when we come back in just over a week.  Instead we did some housekeeping (whi...

AUG 22 It was fairly quite around here.  We did go to the Post Office  the neatest looking gov’t building I’ve ever seen.     We mailed a post card to ourselves to get the special Anne of Green Gables postmark. AUG 23 Off to Charlottetown for laundry, sightseeing and the Gilbert and Anne play.   So back about 25 years ago, I booked a week-long cycling trip in Cuba with MacQueens Bicycles out of Charlottetown PEI. Sitting in the laundry, I Google mapped them and they were 650 meters from where we were! I walked over to buy a water bottle holder (we had one break) and see if there was anyone there that had something to do with the original trip.  Well…Dan was there.  He was the (then young 20-year-old) son/tour leader on the trip.  We chatted a few minutes and reminisced.   Dan entertained the cyclists and local children by cycling on his unicycle.  He tried a stunt and...

Aug 20, Anne of Green Gables.  The musical. Elizabeth was brave and went swimming in the Atlantic this a.m.  Actually, the temperature was not bad but I’m a cold-water swim wimp so just dabbled my toes. We went off to Charlottetown in the evening and to the theatre.  A super well done musical of Anne of Green Gables.  What can I say? Aug 21, The Fiddling Fisherman, Souris. We left camp early in the day to wander along the North East coast drive and see more of the island on our way to an event we have booked.  The PEI National Park is separated (physically) in three sections.  The middle area is mainly sand dunes.  We were able to visit the campground there and have our picnic lunch.   We made our way to Souris where we will return for the ferry to the Magdalene Islands next week. Elizabeth here:   The island is so beautiful and the parts we’ve seen so far are very rural/a...

AUG 16 GASPE TO MIRAMICHI NB Elizabeth here:  A few things I forgot to mention about our drive in the Gaspe, for those who enjoy puns. We passed a small roadside food truck with a big sign that said they were the “Pout Inn” and another place painted a deep purple named the “Auberge Inn.” A pleasant ride to Miramichi where we will meet up with Ashley and Kori to go for a boat ride/tour and dinner.  We are being hosted by Walmart here and have a great spot overlooking a forest.  Thanks Walmart. We’ve been having trouble off and on with the “breakaway” switch on the trailer.  This actually was acting up the day we hooked up at the dealer lot but it was intermittent and I thought it was solved by contact spray and conductive grease.  Not so.  When it’s raining it intermittently interrupts power to the trailer brakes so it has been a bit of a pain.   I bought a new one here in Miramichi and just ...
