This is a bag our daughter Kelly gave us last year for our five month adventure west and to the Arctic ocean.
Love it!
It doesn’t seem
to matter what time you leave Guelph to try and travel on the 401 past
Toronto. We left Guelph about
11:30 on a Thursday and hit stop and go from before Milton to past Whitby. Anyhow made it to a nice RV park that we have
stayed in before called Rideau Acres Campground just outside of Kingston on Lake
Ontario.
Friday Aug. 2 Les Cedres/Montreal
Today we’ll head for Les Cedres,
just outside of Montreal where we will visit friends for a couple of days. Staying at the Montreal West KOA.
Shot of the seaway from Clifford:
Tonight, there is a Toast and Café BBQ (??wait what??) hosted by the camp. The best part is the caramel sauce on the toast.
There is a paved 30+km
cycling path along the St. Lawrence Seaway here just outside our door. We’ll be riding it Saturday. We rode about 40km of it 2 years ago and it's very scenic.
Sat. Aug 3, West Montreal
Today we had an excellent morning ride along the paved cycling/walking path that follows the canal. It is probably the original "tow path" that maybe horses and men would use to tow barges along the canal to bypass the rapids. There are many cycling routes here and this one is a long loop though we only cycled about 30km.
Replica of a canal gate keepers house.
There were a couple of washrooms and tool stations for minor repairs and this is a great place to cycle. There are paved bike paths everywhere and in some places bike lanes separate from the road.
Tie your barge up here:
Mike out for a run.
In Les Cedres there were sheet metal sculptures on the front lawn of a house. As we were taking pictures, a fellow stopped in his truck and explained that they were made by his father who passed in June. It was unsure what would happen to them.
One was a replica of a local church celebrating 100 years.
Another of an old power station along the canal which looks like a castle...see the original shot below:
Saturday evening we went to the Upstairs Jazz Bar and Grill in Montreal (which is really downstairs.) We had been there before with some friends a few years back.
There was a super great group playing called the Hard Bop 5. They started out with four. The sax player (#5) came in late and jumped in just in time for his solo (it was his composition.) Later, he left again. The bass player explained in French. We think he said either the sax player was not feeling well or someone in his family...we couldn't quite understand. You've heard of "Hot Jazz" well the band was hot but so were we. The club was really warm, close and crowded but we still had a great time. The food was pretty good too.
